What Is A Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula is the fairy godmother of the postpartum period. With special knowledge on topics like breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, the physical and emotional needs of baby and mother, infant care and much more, she knows what both mother and baby need to thrive as they begin life together. Her role is unique for each family that she works with, but in essence, it is to help the mother with day-to-day tasks so that she can focus on resting, recovering and bonding with her newborn. A postpartum doula is also a sort of guide, helping new families navigate through this season.
What Does Postpartum Support Look Like?
I take care of new mothers in many different ways. I understand their needs and can teach the basics of newborn care, breastfeeding, diapering, soothing and so much more. Other things that I might help with include straightening up around the house, throwing in a load of laundry, light meal prep, entertaining older siblings so that mom and baby can rest together, or caring for the newborn so that older siblings get some one-on-one time with mom. I have a special interest in helping women process their birth experiences and my focus in all of my work is to help mother and baby get off to the very best start possible!
